S’Albufera de Mallorca is an area of great ecological and environmental importance, as it hosts a wide variety of animal and plant species. It is a protected natural area covering more than 2,500 hectares. Within it lies a freshwater lake, surrounded by extensive wetlands and forest areas. It is also a key site for birdwatching, with more than 200 different species recorded.
